58 years of innovative floor coverings

Belysse’s history spans almost 6 decades. Sixty years of textile innovation, filled with important milestones. From product launches to important corporate evolutions, let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

1964

Balta nv is established and settles in Sint-Baafs-Vijve, Flanders, where it starts producing woven area rugs. Why the name? It is a mix of ‘Balcaen’ - the founder’s name - and ‘tapijt’ - the Dutch word for carpet.

1974

In Tielt, the Imperial Tufting Company - or ITC - is founded.

2010

Balta acquires DOMO, a floor-covering business, which will grow into modulyss.

2017

Bentley Mills (LA, USA) is acquired.

Balta becomes stock-listed on Euronext Brussels.

2022

The Balta brand is sold to Victoria PLC, together with Rugs, Residential polypropylene and Non-Woven businesses. From then on, the group’s main focus lies on developing its commercial and premium residential businesses in Europe and the US, under mother brand Belysse.
